A document which gives you the reassurance that your affairs will be dealt with on your behalf when you are unable to do so yourself. This is a document which is registered with the Office of the Public Guardian. You can give a named person the power to deal with your property, financial affairs or welfare issues if for some reason you become unable to make decisions. Do not wait until there is a pressing need to do this.
Everyone should have a Will. If you die without one, the consequences can be dire for your loved ones. Everyone should be aware of the rules of inheritance, which are very different from those in England and Wales. A little planning now can mean that your wishes are carried out on your death. Regular reviews of your Will are recommended.
What happens if someone dies? You are likely to require assistance to wind up their estate -
Phone our office and we can talk you through the immediate practicalities. We can then arrange an appointment to start the process of administration of the estate. Please note that this process takes around six months to complete, and if inheritance tax is involved it may take more than a year.
